Sod Verses Natural
While native plants have their benefits, sodding your lawn can be the smarter choice, especially when it comes to maintenance, aesthetics, and pest control. One of the biggest advantages of sodding is that you get an instant, lush, green lawn. No waiting for seeds to sprout—just roll it out, water, and watch it grow. Lower maintenance and durability for active yards.
How to Measure For Sod
To calculate how much sod you need, measure your lawn's length and width in feet and multiply to get square footage. Add (5% - 10%) to your total for cutting and trimming. Divide your adjusted square footage by the size of the sod roll/pallet you are ordering.
Watering New Sod
You need to water your new sod every day for the first two weeks. Water only in the mornings. When you water before 9 am less water is lost to evaporation, and you allow the grass to dry before the evening.
Can you Walk on New Sod
It's OK to use a new lawn lightly during the first few weeks; walking across it is ok but wait a little while to play any sports or games. Also, it's best to keep dogs off of new sod as their shallow roots are extra susceptible to urine spots.
